Natural Ingredients to get Rid of Joint Pains easily



Joint pain is one of the most common problems among people of various age groups. If not treated early, the inflammation of joints can worsen with age, causing more pain and stiffness, especially in the elderly people.

Various factors like previous injury, allergic reactions or infection, physically demanding job, hereditary, obesity, auto immune disease and many other reasons contribute to this serious disorder. Although, with proper medication, exercise and physiotherapy, the pain can be reduced to a great extent, but there are some home remedies that can treat and relieve joint pain easily.

So, let’s have a look at some of the therapies which you could do easily at home.


Turmeric

An essential part of the daily diet, turmeric is readily available at home. The yellow powder contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, which helps in treating the pain. You can consume turmeric in following ways to get relief from joint pain:



  • Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in one glass of warm milk and drink daily before going to bed. If you want, you can add little honey in the milk for some sweetness.

  • You can even consume 250-500 mg turmeric capsules thrice daily.

If you are an avid tea drinker, than brew some turmeric and ginger tea for yourself and drink it twice daily. Add ½ teaspoon each of ginger and turmeric in 2 cups of boiling water. You can also add ½ teaspoon of fenugreek powder. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes before straining it in a cup. Add honey to your likening.


Ginger

Another ingredient which is readily available at your kitchen counter and is effective in treating your joint pain is ginger. You can reap the maximum benefits from ginger in following ways:

  • Have fresh ginger roots or dried ginger powder daily with your meal.

  • You can even apply ginger oil regularly on your joints.

  • Else, grind 6 teaspoon of caraway seeds and dried ginger along with 3 teaspoon of black pepper. Now, take ½ teaspoon of this mixture and consume it with water. Have this combination thrice a day.



Onion

Yes, those layered vegetable are packed with vitamin C which can ease pain. This anti-inflammatory food contains photochemical that will help in improving your immune system. The sulphur compounds present in the food reduces the pain by inhibiting the enzymes that causes the discomfort. You can have onion in following ways:

  • Peel and slice the raw onion and have it with your meal.

  • You can even cook the onions with herbs of your preference and eat it in your salad.


Garlic

Garlic contains selenium and sulphur, both these compounds are said to help in treating joint pain. You can have garlic in the following ways:

  • Eat 2-3 cloves of raw or cooked garlic daily.

  • In case, you are not able to tolerate the smell then you can consume supplements which have garlic in them. However, do consult your doctor before taking the supplements.

  • You can also massage the garlic oil on the affected area. Just fry 2 garlic cloves in 2 tablespoon of mustard or sesame oil till it turns black. Now, strain the oil and let it cool till it is warm enough for application. Massage the oil and leave it for 3 hours before washing it off. Do the massage twice daily and you will see the results.



Heat and cold compress

Both heat and cold compress can be beneficial in lessening the symptoms of knee pain. But the treatment you choose depends on the type of pain you are suffering from. If there is inflammation then you should avoid heat compresses as it can make the situation worse. Heat therapy is best for chronic pain like arthritis. In case of sports injury, apply a cold compress.


Castor Oil

Castor oil is a wonderful natural solution to ease joint pain in the knees and is even documented in the ancient Ayurvedic manuscripts of Sushruta Samhita, Charaka Samhita, for its potential in managing arthritis symptoms. It is known as Eranda Tailam as per the Ayurveda terminology in Sanskrit and possesses ricinoleic acid, a powerful phytonutrient with anti-inflammatory properties that reduces aching, discomfort in the bones, muscles, joints in the body.



Warm 3 tbsp of castor oil and transfer it to a clean bowl. Take a portion in the palms and rub it on both knees in gentle circular motions for 2 minutes each, applying pressure mildly. This oil massage with castor oil vastly improves blood circulation to the knees and generates heat, which helps increase the range of motion of the joints and lessen knee pain.


Yoga Asanas

A holistic form of exercise that activates the body and calms the mind, yoga is highly effective in pacifying joint pain in the knees. In instances of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, doctors advise avoiding very vigorous training routines and recommend strengthening yoga postures which are low to moderate-intensity workouts.



Yoga exercises such as Trikonasana, Veerabhadrasana, Vrikshasana entail just basic, simple standing, stretching and bending motions and can be performed daily in the morning for 15 – 20 minutes. These postures reinforce the spine, knee, thigh, hip and leg muscles, promote blood flow to the bones and joints, remarkably enhancing their flexibility and decreasing swelling, pain and inflammation in arthritis.

Other than these remedies, you can even apply hot towel on the affected area, soak the area in warm water mixed with epsom salt or massage your sore joints with extra virgin olive oil.
